TriCoreDB for Windows

Two installers. One is the database, with Studio in it. The other is Studio alone, for a computer that only connects to a server running somewhere else. Both are free to use while TriCoreDB is a beta.

TriCoreDB Beta

0.1.0-rc.3 · Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit · 16.1 MB

The whole database on this machine. Choose this one unless you already have a TriCoreDB server to connect to.

  • The database server, installed as a Windows service
  • The tricore command-line tool
  • Studio, as a desktop app and in your browser from the server itself
  • Nothing else to install first
  • SQL, documents and cache switched on; vectors and graphs are one line each in the config

TriCoreDB Studio Beta

0.1.0-rc.3 · Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit · 1.4 MB

The desktop app on its own: a query tool, an object explorer, and backup and restore to a file. It holds no database.

  • Installs for you alone, with no administrator rights, or for everyone on the computer
  • Connects to any TriCoreDB server you can reach
  • Uses Microsoft Edge WebView2; the installer fetches it if this PC does not have it
  • Uninstalling keeps your saved servers and settings unless you tick the box to delete them

This is a beta, and the installers are not signed yet

Windows will say the publisher is unknown. In the SmartScreen window choose More info, then Run anyway — and check the SHA-256 below first, so you know the file is the one published here. TriCoreDB 0.1.0-rc.3 is a release candidate: keep your own backups of anything you store in it.

The database

Install it and open Studio

One installer puts the server on this machine as a Windows service and serves Studio from it.

  1. 1

    Run the installer

It asks for administrator rights, because it registers a Windows service.

  2. 2

    Answer its four questions

Where the data lives, the port applications connect to (8427), the port Studio uses (8428), and the name and password of the first administrator. There is no built-in password: the one you type here is the only one.

  3. 3

    Open Studio and sign in

Use the TriCoreDB Studio entry in the Start Menu, or open http://127.0.0.1:8428 in a browser, and sign in as the administrator you just created.

  4. 4

    Removing it

Uninstall from Apps in Windows Settings. It asks what to remove: the database server, the Studio desktop app, or both. Your databases and Studio’s saved settings are kept unless you tick the boxes to delete them.

Studio on its own

Connect the desktop app to a server somewhere else

The desktop app holds no database. It signs in to a TriCoreDB server you already run, on this machine or another.

  1. 1

    Install Studio

Choose whether it is for you alone or for everyone on the computer.

  2. 2

Let the server accept the app

A server answers only the pages it serves itself unless it is told otherwise. Add the line below to the server’s config and restart it. If you skip this, Studio tells you so when you sign in and shows the exact line.

  3. 3

Enter the server’s host and its Studio port (8428 unless you changed it), then your user name and password.

tricore.toml on the server
[bridge]
enabled = true
allowed_origins = ["http://tauri.localhost"]

Studio opened from the database installer runs in your browser from the server itself and needs no such line.

Before you run it

Check the file you downloaded

Compare what PowerShell prints with the SHA-256 printed under the button you used.

PowerShell
Get-FileHash .\TriCoreDB-Setup-0.1.0-rc.3.exe -Algorithm SHA256

Both checksums as one file: SHA256SUMS.txt

Licence

Free to use while it is a beta

The server, the command-line tool and Studio are proprietary software. While TriCoreDB is a beta you may install and use them, free of charge, for your own personal or internal purposes. You may not redistribute them, offer them to others as a hosted service, modify them or reverse engineer them. The SDKs are separate and stay Apache-2.0.
